The plates shown in the photographs may or may not be a photo of the actual plate that is for sale!! If a plate number is listed in the description then the picture shown is the actual plate for sale. Otherwise the plate(s) for sale will be the same design but may have a different plate number.

This page is organized as follows: If I have a plate from a particular country it will be listed in alphabetical order. For countries whose individual states or provinces issue their own plates (such as Australia or Mexico) the states will be shown in alphabeical order within that country, For example if I have plates from the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Tabasco and Durango they would be listed under Mexico the order of Durango, Oaxaca and Tabasco. Within each jurisdiction ordinary standard-issue plates for privately-owned vehicles (commonly called "normal series") are listed first folowed by any non-normal series plates (such as taxi, trailer, motorcycle, government, etc.). If nothing is listed from a place you're looking for that means I don't have a plate from there.

Australia ~ ~ Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Early 1980s "squashed ACT", gvg (1 xh) (# YMN-171) $45

In late 1979 the ACT began to issue plates with the slogan "Canberra-The Nation's Capital" on them. However when the first plates were made they did not have any territorial identification on them. When this oversight was noticed the plates were restamped, adding the territorial identification "ACT", squeezing it onto the left end of the plates under the left arm of the "Y" of the plate number. As more plates were made the size of the number dies was modified to allow a full size "ACT" along the left end of the plates. This is one of the plates from the original manufacturing run which had the "ACT" squeezed onto it. These are commonly called "squashed ACT" plates.

It can't be seen in the photo but when this plate was made it was painted blue on white, the colors of most 1974/75 plates. However fronteriza plates were supposed to be black on white so it was repainted in the factory to have black characters. The underlying blue can be seen on the plate in the scratch on the "7" in the plate number.

On some of México's 1976/77 plates they experimented with reflectorization. Some plates in public service classifiations were made with a reflectorized coating as an experiment to see how durable they would be. This is one of those plates. It has a coating of small glass or plastic beads that reflect light, making the plates more visible at night. The area on the bottom of the plate between the "BC" and "MEX" was not covered by the beads which is why it has a slightly lighter appearance to the tan background.

New Zealand plates have always been undated. From 1925 to 1941 new plates were issued each year, then every five years from 1941 to 1966. The colors of the plate along with the shape and position of the number seperator indicated the years of validity.
