Keep in mind:
Unless otherwise noted, the photographs below are the actual plate that is for sale.
To see an explanation of grading terms used go to the page on license plate grading terms. This page includes links to several other pages with photographic examples of each grading term most license plate collectors use.
This list is divided into two parts. The first section lists ordinary passenger car plates. Below the passenger section are non-passenger or specialty plates (such as truck, trailer, motorcycle, government, farm, college, etc.).
This is a hobby to me, not a business. I don't have online ordering or checkout. If you are interested in anything e-mail me at

| Beginning in 1994 (for registrations expiring in 1995) Texas began issuing a windshield sticker to validate most types of plates rather than a plate sticker. Because of this all passenger and truck plates issued since then have no plate stickers. However since Texas assigns plates to the counties in numerical order the year of issue can generally be determined within a year or two by the plate number. For undated passenger and truck plates validated by a windshield sticker I have noted the most likely year of issue. | ||

| Antique: (Antique auto plates began in 1958 and were issued for set, five-year periods until 2018. During this period expiration dates were 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018. The expire-2018 plates were replaced with a stickered plate expiring in 2023. New registrations since probably the early 2020s expire five years from the year of registration.) Combination replacement: ("Combination" plates are used on the truck half of 18-wheelers.) Texas did have replacement plates for some truck and trailer types from the 1950s to 1974. They were always colored differently than the standard plates and were numbered at the very end of the allotted numbering block for their respective types. | ||

Disabled Veteran: | ||
| Take note! Disabled veteran plates have never used the same year stickers as ordinary passenger, truck and most other types of plates. Prior to the mid-1990s disabled veteran plates were validated with a specal year sticker with the letters "DV" on it. After this they used the same year sticker as personalized plates. Note that any of the disabled veteran plates I offer here have the proper "DV" sticker. Most disabled veteran plates you see are front plates that someone slapped a regular year sticker onto, not realizing that after 1976 a few types of plates used special year stickers with the classification on them. |

undated (circa 1980) trailer error plate, mint (# 58S*424) $5 Trailer plates at this time were numbered with one letter and up to five numbers. However this plate was mistakenly made with the letter "S" in the wrong position. The number should have been S58*424, not 58S*424. Plates numbered with two numbers, the letter "S" and three more numbers were from the soil conservation classification, not trailer. |

Texas did have replacement plates for some truck and trailer types from 1955 through 1974. They were always colored differently than the standard plates and were numbered at the very end of the allotted numbering block for their respective types.

Very rare late-manufacture 1974 token trailer, vvg (# Z39*685) $100 In 1975 Texas introduced multi-year plates, validated by stickers from 1976 onwards. To make room for the sticker boxes on the 1975 plates the classification on non-passenger plates was moved from the bottom of the plates to the top and placed just under the state name. During 1974, after the manufacturing equipment was retooled and the 1975 plates had begun to be made, more 1974 token trailer plates were needed. Rather than retool the equipment again to make plates look like other 1974 plates, they just took out the sticker box dies and put in the "19" and "74" dies. Token trailer plates in this design are exceedingly rare. I have been a license plate hobbiest in Texas since the early 1970s and did not know this variety existed until I stumbled across a few of them in a Houston antique mall in 1996. These are the only token trailer plates in this design that I have ever seen. To the best of my knowledge only truck and token trailer were made in this late-manufacture design. |

Tow Truck: (Tow Truck plates were first issued in 1988 (expire-1989) as a small-sized plate which was used as a supplemental plate alongside the wrecker's regular truck plates. In 1998 (for expire-1999 registrations) these small plates were discontinued when full-sized "tow truck" plates were issued to replace the wrecker's regular truck plates. In spite of having sticker boxes, the full-sized tow truck plates never used plate stickers.)

1988 tow truck, vg (# 145*30W) $35 Texas planned on introducing tow truck plates in 1987 (expiring in January 1988). However there was a dispute about whether they would be used alongside the wrecker's regular truck plate or in place of it. As a result the full-size expire-1988 tow truck plates which had been manufactured were never issued. The first tow truck plates that were issued were the small-sized expire-1989 plates (which were issued as singles and used alongside the wrecker's regular truck plate). |
